    Speakers

    Tom Spahr - Home Depot Vice President Human Resources – Learning & Development

    Thomas Spahr is vice president of learning and development. He is responsible for the design and delivery of the Company’s training and development programs. This includes operations, systems, customer service, and product knowledge training as well as leadership training and executive development for all store, supply chain, field and corporate positions.

    Tom joined the Company in 2000 as divisional human resources manager. He has held roles of increasing responsibility including director of talent management, director of human resources, vice president of human resources for the northern division and vice president of learning. Most recently, he was vice president of talent management and organizational effectiveness.

    Prior to joining The Home Depot, Tom held various leadership positions within human resources and operations at national home improvement retailers Builders Square and Wickes Lumber Company. Tom has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the State University of New York at Albany.


    Joe Garcia - Home Depot Senior Director of Organizational Effectiveness & Talent Management

    Dr. Joe Garcia is the Sr. Director of Talent Management at The Home Depot. In this capacity, he is responsible for Organizational Effectiveness (selection, engagement, and talent analytics), Succession Management and Talent Planning, Performance Management, and Organizational Development. Dr. Garcia has over 26 years of business experience in retail, medical equipment, life science, and management consulting.

    Dr. Garcia has extensive international experience. He has consulted with multinationals in Europe, Latin American and the Caribbean and has lead major selection and organization development projects in Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, and Brazil. He is fluent is Spanish and English.

    Dr. Garcia is a frequent presenter at national conferences speaking about his work in the areas of selection, engagement, and talent development.

    Dr. Garcia holds a master’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Miami. He conducted his doctoral studies at the University of Miami and the Fielding Institute, where he graduated with a Ph.D. in human and organizational development.


    Tim Hourigan - Home Depot Executive Vice President of Human Resources

    Tim Hourigan oversees all aspects of human resource management for The Home Depot’s more than 400,000 associates. His leadership team strives to create a best-in-class organization of orange-blooded associates to bring our company’s values to life in more than 2,200 retail stores and store support centers.

    Most recently, Tim served as president of the company’s Southern Division where he was responsible for the sales and operations of more than 690 stores, leading a team of more than 100,000 associates in 15 U.S. states, Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. Prior to this role, Tim led the human resources function for the company’s
    U.S. stores and operations as well as overseeing the company’s compensation, benefits and HR systems.

    Earlier in his career, Tim held a number of finance, human resources and operational leadership roles, including senior vice president and chief operating officer at Homelife Corp., as well as finance, human resources and international training roles with Ernst & Young, Batus, Inc. and Sears Roebuck & Company.

    Tim has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bellarmine University and is a certified public accountant.


    Sherry Yaskin - Home Depot Vice President Human Resources

    Sherry Yaskin is vice president of human resources, U.S. stores and operations, for The Home Depot. She is responsible for all human resources functions for the Company’s 1,977 stores in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

    Sherry joined The Home Depot in 2004 as director of learning and has held positions of increasing responsibility, including director of talent management and organizational effectiveness, senior director of human resources for both the western and northern divisions, senior director of human resources for U.S. operations and the pro business and, most recently, vice president of talent management and organizational effectiveness.

    Prior to joining the Company, Sherry was a district manager with Circuit City. She also spent more than 14 years with Gap, Inc., where she held a variety of leadership positions.  Sherry holds a Bachelor’s of Speech Communication from the University of Florida.

    Can’t make it? Can someone else from your office attend in your place? Substitutions are allowed; however, the non-member rate may apply. To transfer your registration please submit your request via email to info@SHRMAtlanta.org

    Would you like to transfer an upcoming registration from one event to another? Requests for transfers must be made by the event cancellation date, usually seven days prior to the event.

    Cancellations must be made by the cancellation deadline for the specific event, usually seven days prior for most events. All cancellations are subject to a minimum $20 administration fee. Some events may have a higher fee, please refer to the individual event page, or to your confirmation email. Cancellations/No-Shows on the date of the event forfeit the entire registration fee. No refunds or transfer of fees will be made after the date of the event.
